Cloudflare: traffic and uptime
An analytics token, and Web Analytics turned on for each site.
About 10 minutes.
Visits per site come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is free, cookie-free and works whether or not your site is proxied through Cloudflare. Uptime needs nothing: it's checked from outside every five minutes.
Turn on Web Analytics for each site
- In the Cloudflare dashboard, open Web Analytics.
- Select Add a site.
- If the site is proxied through Cloudflare: pick its hostname from the list and select Done. That's all; it's set up automatically.
- If it isn't: type the hostname, select it, then Done; open Manage site, copy the JavaScript snippet and paste it into your site's pages just before </body> (in WordPress, a header and footer plugin does this).
Create the analytics token
- In Cloudflare, open your profile (top right) → My Profile → API Tokens.
- Select Create Token, then Create Custom Token.
- Name it "RevWarn (read only)".
- Permissions: Account → Account Analytics → Read, and Account → Account Settings → Read.
- Account Resources: your account. Then Continue to summary → Create Token.
- Copy the token (it's shown once) and your Account ID (on any account page, in the sidebar or overview).
Don't send keys by email or chat. Keep them ready for your setup session, where they go straight into your dashboard's encrypted settings.
If you see…
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Web Analytics on each Cloudflare site: Missing … | Those sites aren't added in Web Analytics yet, or are added under another account. | Add them as above, in the same Cloudflare account as the token. The next hourly run finds them. |
| cf_rum … 403 or Authentication error | The token is missing a permission or belongs to another account. | Check it has Account Analytics: Read for the right account, or make a new one. |
| Visits are lower than Google Analytics | Normal: Web Analytics counts without cookies and differently from GA4. | Compare trends, not totals. Both are shown where both are connected. |
