Stripe (subscriptions)

One restricted, read-only key: recurring revenue, subscribers, cancellations and failed payments.

About 4 minutes.

For sites that sell memberships or subscriptions. If you take payments through Ghost, Memberful, MemberPress, WooCommerce Subscriptions or Substack, they run on your own Stripe account underneath, so this one key covers them.

RevWarn only reads. It accepts a restricted key with Read access and refuses a secret key (sk_…), which could change your account.

Create the key

  1. In the Stripe Dashboard, open the API keys page (dashboard.stripe.com/apikeys) and click Create restricted key. Start from zero permissions if it offers a choice, and name the key RevWarn.
  2. Set Read on: Charges, Invoices, Subscriptions and Products (and Prices, if Stripe lists it separately). Leave everything else at None.
  3. Click Create key, complete Stripe's two-step check, then click the key to copy it: it starts with rk_live_. Stripe shows it only once.
  4. Paste it on your dashboard's Connections page under Stripe and press Save and test.
Don't send keys by email or chat. Keep them ready for your setup session, where they go straight into your dashboard's encrypted settings.

What you'll see

Under Revenue on the dashboard: recurring revenue a month and its last 90 days, paying subscribers, new and cancelled in the last 30 days, and failed payments. Money actually collected counts in your month-to-date revenue with your affiliate commissions; a refunded payment counts as reversed.

Warnings: three or more failed payments (or a tenth of your recurring revenue on failed cards), a week with at least three cancellations and twice the usual number, and recurring revenue down 10% and $50 or more in 30 days.

Which site earned it

Each Stripe product is matched to a site by a site entry in its metadata (Stripe → Products → the product → Metadata: key site, value the site's name), else by the product's name. Anything left over is listed on the Revenue uploads page, to match once by hand.
